Mr. Denham

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) what is the estimated cost, in pounds sterling, per unit kilowatt hour of energy to be generated by the Arun III project in Nepal;

(2) how many schemes were considered by the World bank and the Nepali Government prior to the selection of the Arun III 400MW dam scheme; and what was the estimated (a) cost and (b) output of each scheme.

We are in touch with the World bank to see if it can provide the information requested. I will write to the hon. Member in due course.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will place a copy of the environmental impact statement for the Arun III project in the Library.
