§ Mr. Robin SquireInformation on the numbers of teaching and non-teaching staff is collected from local education authorities by the local government management board on behalf of the joint staffing watch group. The following data was supplied by the Newham education authority and shows the numbers of teaching staff and other education staff employed for the years 1988 to 1994. It is not possible to separate these between staff employed in schools and those employed elsewhere.

2. "Education—other" includes educational support, clerical, school meals and premises related staff employed in schools and colleges, together with central services and administration within the education service.
