HL Deb 29 June 1994 vol 556 c45WA
Earl Russell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether a pupil suspended from a grant-maintained school has any further appeal beyond the school governors.

Baroness Blatch

Pupils at GM schools (or parents, if the pupil is under 18) have a right of appeal against permanent exclusion, if it is upheld by the discipline committee of the school's governing body. The pupil may appeal to an independent appeal committee which includes a majority of independent and lay members. Its decision is final and binding on all parties.
