§ Dr. Lynne Jones
To ask the Secretary of State for Education what is the effect of his Department's funding for special educational needs grants for education support and training on other education budgets.

§ Mr. Forth
The GEST programme prioritises less than 2 per cent. of overall LEA expenditure. In 1994–95, there are five SEN grants which total £23.7 million of the overall budget for GEST of £270.6 million.
It is for LEAs themselves to decide how much of their overall education budget to spend respectively on special educational needs and other areas of education.
