HL Deb 27 June 1994 vol 556 c33WA
Earl Russell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they agree with the statement made by the Conservative candidate in the European constituency of Bristol (the Earl of Stockton) that "for the first time in 50 years since Britain and her allies liberated Europe from the Nazi scourge, Britain risks betrayal by the treacherous axis between the Brussels federalists, Labour and the Liberal Democrats".

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)

The Government have no responsibility for remarks which may be made by Conservative Party candidates. The Government have however made clear that they consider the policies on Europe advocated by Her Majesty's loyal opposition and by the Liberal Democrats would result in an unacceptable shift of power away from national parliaments.
