§ Mr. BoswellThe spending plans announced in last year's Budget imply annual efficiency gains in the HEFCE sector of 4 per cent. in 1994–95 and 1995–96 and 3 per cent. in 1996–97. Separately, we have asked the HEFCE to maintain broadly the current proportional split between funds for teaching and research, and it will monitor the impact of these arrangements.
