HC Deb 23 June 1994 vol 245 cc254-5W
Sir Richard Body

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps are being taken by him to expedite the validation of the fixed dose method as a replacement for the LD50 test.

Mr. Charles Wardle

Holders of project licences under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 are required to use the fixed dose procedure wherever this is acceptable to the relevant regulatory authority. In other cases licensees are encouraged to seek the agreement of the regulatory authority to use the FDP rather than the LD50 test. We are considering a recommendation from the Animal Procedures Committee that action be taken to encourage acceptance of data from tests conducted to current OECD guideline methods; these include the FDP.
