To ask the President of the Board of Trade what responses he has received so far on his Green Paper on the Future of the Post Office.

Mr. McLoughlin

The Green Paper has not yet been published. However, we have received a number of representations since my right hon. Friend's statement on 19 May expressing a range of views on the future of the Post Office.

Mr. Hain

To ask the President of the Board of Trade whether he was consulted about statements made by the Post Office chief executive on privatisation.

Mr. McLoughlin

The Post Office board is entirely free to comment in public on issues concerning the future of its business.

Mr. Gordon Prentice

To ask the President of the Board of Trade when he expects to publish his consultation paper on the Post Office.
