Mr. Bradley

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many people now receive severe disablement allowance; and how many receive age allowances(a) at the higher rate, (b) at the middle rate and (c) at the lower rate.

Mr. Scott

As at 4 April 1992, the latest year for which actual figures are available, there were 302,0001 recipients of severe disablement allowance. The numbers entitled to the higher, middle and lower rate age allowances were 204,0001, 52,0001 and 45,0001 respectively. We estimate that as at April 1993 there were 313,0002 recipients of severe disablement allowance.
