HC Deb 21 June 1994 vol 245 c125W
Mr. Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list those countries in which the air traffic control service has been privatised.

Mr. Norris

I know of none whose air traffic control service has been fully privatised in the sense that it is wholly or predominantly owned by shareholders or by organisations outside Government. But I understand that Switzerland's air traffic control service—SwissControl—is only partly owned by the Swiss Government. Over the past few years, greater commercialisation has been the trend throughout the world, and, for example, in Germany and New Zealand ATC provision has been removed from the machinery of Government and established in some form of corporate body.
