§ Mr. Austin MitchellTo ask the Secretary of State for Education what instructions are given to security staff in his departmental offices in London for dealing with(a) those sleeping rough in departmental doorways and (b) beggars in the vicinity; and how many problems have been experienced with each category in the last three months.
§ Mr. ForthNo special instructions are issued to the custody guards for dealing with incidents arising from either category. The guards' operational standing orders direct them to notify the local police where the actions of any individuals in bordering public streets are judged to pose a threat to the Department's perimeter security. No problems of this nature have arisen in the last three months.
