HC Deb 14 June 1994 vol 244 c486W
Mr. Pickthall

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what is the status of the paragraphs 20 and 22 of the sex education circular of 11 February omitted from the new circular.

Mr. Forth

Circular 11/87 has been superseded by circular 5/94 which explains the provisions of the Education Act 1993 in relation to sex education in maintained schools in England, and offers guidance to local education authorities and schools on implementation. Circular 5/94 sets out schools' legal obligations, including the requirement that sex education must encourage due regard to moral considerations and the value of family life and contains a summary of the law on sexual behaviour.
