To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement concerning his policies for nursery and reception classes in local education authority schools.

The provision of education for children aged under five in local education authority schools remains at the discretion of the local education authorities themselves.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many(a) male and (b) female (i) teachers and (ii) ancillary staff are employed in each local education authority in Wales in nursery and reception classes; and if he will make a statement.

Payments will be reduced if the base area is exceeded.

on males and females are not separately available for nursery schools. The numbers of ancillary staff in nursery and primary schools and the numbers of teachers in nursery and reception classes are not collected centrally.
