HC Deb 14 June 1994 vol 244 c399W
Mr. Worthington

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what attempts are being made in the European Union to assess the impact of the common agricultural policy upon developing countries and to alleviate any damaging effects.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

The common agricultural policy was reformed in May 1992, partly because dumping of surplus produce on world markets under the European Community's agricultural policies was clearly affecting developing countries.

The United Kingdom is pressing for reductions in EC price support and for better targeting of remaining support towards environmental and social objectives without detrimental effect on developing countries.
