To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many individuals have applied for benefit in respect of chronic bronchitis or emphysema; how many of those claims have been successful in the period since the inception of the scheme; how many of these claims were refused on the basis of(a) insufficient lung function loss, (b) insufficient lengths of service and (c) non-diagnosis of class 1 pneumoconiosis; and if he will give these figures according to standard British Coal regions.
