HL Deb 13 June 1994 vol 555 c88WA
Lord Kilmarnock

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they accept the view expressed in paragraph 231 of the Report of the Enquiry into London's Health Services (the Tomlinson Report) that further work needs to be undertaken 'to ensure that the approach to weighted capitation is systematic and fair when applied to the inner London districts, and if so what progress has been made in this respect and when the results will be announced.

Whether the proposed reduction in the number of acute hospital beds in London will not be greater than is desirable unless the new weighted capitation formula makes adequate allowance for the particular problems of inner cities in general and London in particular.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Cumberlege)

A national review of weighted capitation is taking place which includes consideration of a wide range of factors, including any allowance for the particular problems of inner cities, including London.
