HL Deb 07 June 1994 vol 555 c73WA
Earl Russell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the exercise of jurisdiction by a head teacher of a grant-maintained school is susceptible to judicial review.

The Minister of State, Department for Education (Baroness Blatch)

It is for the courts to determine the scope of their jurisdiction in respect of applications for judicial review, but in principle that jurisdiction extends to decisions of a public law nature taken by the head teacher of any publicly-maintained school.
