HL Deb 06 June 1994 vol 555 c71WA
Lord Orr-Ewing

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether other member states of NATO are revising their legislation so as to permit homosexual practices in their armed forces.

Viscount Cranborne

Although a number of NATO countries already allow homosexuals to serve in their Armed Forces, we are not aware of any current revisions to their legislation in this context. We have no plans to allow homosexuals to serve in HM Forces, as we believe that homosexuality is incompatible with Service life.
