HL Deb 25 July 1994 vol 557 cc59-60WA
Lord Mason of Barnsley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have received any correspondence from the Police Federation on the issue of identity cards.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Baroness Blatch)

Further to my noble Friend's Answer of 20 June [col.WA.8] I have now become aware that, in the context of comments to the Home Office on amendments to the Criminal Justice and Public Order Bill, the Police Federation indicated to us, in February this year, their support for a proposed new clause, tabled by Michael Stephen MP, to establish a voluntary identity card scheme.
