HL Deb 25 July 1994 vol 557 c67WA
Lord Mulley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will seek, on grounds of competition and equity, to bring an end to the landing charge levied by the French authorities on each passenger arriving by ferry at a French port.

Viscount Goschen: The "taxe uniforme" is apparently charged on all ferry companies using certain French ports. The Government are seeking further information to see whether this tax breaches Community law and will then consider whether to raise the matter with the French authorities.
