HC Deb 21 July 1994 vol 247 cc515-6W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made to the Government of Turkey concerning the arrest and trial of parliamentary members of the Democratic party; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs discussed the need for democratization and constitutional change with Prime Minister Ciller in Istanbul on 10 June. Her Majesty's ambassador in Ankara has made clear to the Turkish Government our strong concern about the action against Democratic party members of parliament.
