Mr. McAllion

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department which organisations were consulted on the issues covered by the Home Office review of core police functions.

Mr. Maclean

The organisations consulted on the review of police core and ancillary tasks are the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Superintendents Association, the Police Federation, the Association of County Councils and the Association of Metropolitan Authorities.

Mr. McAllion

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the nature, length of time and extent of the consultation exercise that he intends to carry out in response to the recommendations of the Home Office review of core police functions.

Mr. Maclean

My right hon. and learned Friend expects to receive a report on the review of police core and ancillary tasks at the turn of the year. Consultation is currently under way with the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Superintendents Association, the Police Federation, the Association of County Councils and the Association of Metropolitan Authorities. My right hon. and learned Friend will decide on the appropriate level and type of wider consultation in the light of the recommendations made by the review.
