HC Deb 21 July 1994 vol 247 cc490-1W
Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what assessment he has made of the need to provide adequate coverage against fires in determining the future of fire stations serving Liverpool; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maclean

My right hon. and learned Friend would not be prepared to approve proposals by the Merseyside fire and civil defence authority for the closure of any fire station in Merseyside unless he was satisfied, on the advice of Her Majesty's inspectorate of fire services, that the authority would continue to maintain the nationally recommended minimum standards of fire cover.
