§ Mr. Byers
To ask the Secretary of State for Education for each year since 1987, what was the percentage of school pupils entitled to free school meals.

§ Mr. Forth
Information on the number of pupils known to be eligible for free school meals was collected from maintained schools in England for the first time in January 1993. At this time, 20 per cent. of pupils were reported as known to be eligible for free school meals.
