To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department in which prisons in England and Wales prisoners' compacts were in operation at the latest available date.

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from A. J. Butler to Ms Joan Ruddock, dated 20 July 1994: The Secretary of State has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question about prisons in England and Wales in which prisoners' compacts were in operation at the latest available date. On 30 June 61 establishments were operating prisoners' compacts. A list is attached as an annex.
