To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement on the criteria which will be used to select members of the Coal Authority.

My right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade will, in accordance with the Coal Industry Act 1994, have regard to the desirability of appointing people with experience of, or who have shown capacity in, matters relevant to the Coal Authority's functions.
