To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what was the total number of scientists employed by the Agriculture and Food Research Council(a) for 1979 and (b) at present.

§ Mr. Waldegrave
The number of scientists employed by the Agricultural and Food Research Council in 1979 was 3,417. As at 31 March 1994, the number was 2,025.
