HC Deb 19 July 1994 vol 247 c138W
Ms Estelle Morris

To ask the Secretary of State for Education when the last research into the provision of road safety education was undertaken; and whether the results were published.

Mr. Forth

The last full survey of the provision of road safety education was undertaken in 1986–87 by Reading university, under contract to the Transport and Road Research Laboratory. The project was funded wholly by Government funds. The results were published in 1989.

Mr. Janner

To ask the Secretary of State for Education how much his Department has spent on road safety training during each of the past 10 years for which records are available.

Mr. Forth

Most schools now have delegated budgets which allow them to invest in road safety training. The Department does not, itself, provide road safety training for school teachers.

Mr. Janner

To ask the Secretary of State for Education how many and what percentage of schools include road safety training in their normal programmes.

Mr. Forth

This information is not collected centrally.

Ms Estelle Morris

To ask the Secretary of State for Education if he will ask the Office for Standards in Education to undertake a review of road safety education and to make recommendations on good practice and how road safety education can be improved.

Mr. Forth

No.
