§ 20. Sir David MadelTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment he has made of the comparative effects on the environment of 44 and 38-tonne lorries.
§ Mr. KeyAs my right hon. Friend replied to my hon. Friend the Member for Reading, West (Sir A. Durant) on70W 21 March Official Report, column 10, we see a positive advantage in the use of 44-tonne lorries for combined road-rail transport. That means fewer lorries and it transfers freight from road to rail and so benefits the environment.
