HC Deb 11 July 1994 vol 246 c469W
Mr. Alan Howarth

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what research has been undertaken by his Department into the availability of audio-described television for visually impaired people in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Brooke

None. A consortium, which includes the Royal National Institute for the Blind, the Independent Television Commission, the BBC, and the ITV Association, is developing the AUDETEL project, which aims to provide an audio description commentary on television. I understand that the BBC and ITV hope to begin experimental transmissions within the next week.
