HC Deb 08 July 1994 vol 246 c359W
Mr. Dafis

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will designate Ballynahone bog as an area of special scientific interest.

Mr. Tim Smith

Planning permission for the extraction of peat Ballynahone bog was granted in 1988 on the recommendation of the Planning Appeals Commission following a local public inquiry.

The Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland is reviewing the conservation status of certain habitats which come within the ambit of the EC directive on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora. These include lowland raised bogs of which Ballynahone bog is an example.
