HC Deb 07 July 1994 vol 246 c319W
Mr. Andrew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what representations he has received on changes in section 11 funding and their effect on multi-cultural education; and what action he is taking in response.

Mr. Robin Squire

We have received many representations from hon. Members, local authorities and associations, teacher unions, minority ethnic communities and other interested parties about changes in section 11 funding.

My right hon. Friend will continue to monitor, through OFSTED, the standard of educational provision in all maintained schools, including provision for those pupils for whom English is not their first language. Additional support for the latter category through section 11 grants is a matter for my right hon. and learned Friend the Home Secretary.
