HC Deb 04 July 1994 vol 246 c7W
Mr. McMaster

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) if he will make a statement on the current issues and problems facing the road haulage industry in Scotland;

(2) if he will make a statement on the current issues and problems facing the excavation and heavy plant hire sector of the road haulage and contracting industry in Scotland.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

[holding answer 1 July 1994]: My right hon. Friend and I are not aware of any particular issues and problems that are peculiar to the road haulage industry in Scotland. The road haulage industry in the United Kingdom is generally acknowledged as being one of the most efficient, reliable and cost-effective within the European Union. It has a continuing and important role to play in the economy of Scotland.
