HL Deb 04 July 1994 vol 556 cc62-3WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether in the co-operation council held in the margins of the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union held in Luxembourg on 13 and 14 June, in which Mr. Shimon Peres took part, the supply of bombers was discussed, and if so with what result.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)

This subject was not discussed at the EU/Israel co-operation council.

Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they consider the provision by the USA of bombers to the Israeli government is likely to promote either stability, or the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, or the peace process in the Middle East.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

American arms sales are a matter for the United States government. We continue to support the peace process, which aims to promote stability in the region.

Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have been consulted by the United States Administration about its reported intention to convey to the Israeli government 25 3,500-mile range advanced bombers, and if so what was their reaction.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

We were not consulted about these matters, which are a matter for the US government.
