§ Mr. Peter Lloyd[holding answer 27 January 1994]: Information on the Prison Service establishment in which held, the age, type of offence, length of service, type of custody, previous convictions, time served and on the frequency of reoffending following release of young offenders is compiled by the research and statistics department. It is published annually in "Prison Statistics, England and Wales". Summary information is monitored on a monthly basis. Operational information about the numbers of young offenders is monitored daily.
The provision of full information has only recently been reinstated following completion of changes to the computer system to reflect the implementation in October 1992 of the Criminal Justice Act 1991. The publication of the 1992 issue of "Prison Statistics" has been delayed.
