To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the total cost incurred by the Scottish Legal Aid Board in connection with market testing of its operations; if these costs have been met from the board's current budget; and if he will make a statement.

In common with other non-departmental public bodies, the Scottish Legal Aid Board is undertaking a programme of market testing of certain of its activities. Separately identifiable costs to date amount to £30,000. These have been met from within the board's adminstrative budget of £7.862 million for 1993–94.
