To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action is being taken to generate opportunities for United Kingdom agricultural enterprises in the developing world.

My Department's trade promotion programme in 1993 included ministerial-led business missions to six countries in the developing world as such.

We also target the developing markets of central and eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union and China, where plans this year include attendance at trade fairs in China, the Baltic States, Russia and Poland.

In total, the Ministry promoted United Kingdom industry at four overseas exhibitions, generating some 500 business inquiries.
