HL Deb 26 January 1994 vol 551 c74WA
Lord Aldington

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they incorrectly stated in a Written Answer to a Parliamentary Question [H.C. Deb., 28.10.93, col. 746] that severance payments had been authorised for the Chairman of Committees in the House of Lords, and for the Deputy Chairman of Committees in the House of Lords; and, if so, whether they will publish a correction in the Official Report of the House of Commons.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Employment (Lord Henley)

In a Written Answer to a Parliamentary Question (H.C. Deb, 28.10.93, col. 746] severance payments were shown as having been authorised with effect from 5 May 1992 for the Chairman of Committees, House of Lords, and the Principal Deputy Chairman of Committees, House of Lords. These payments were not however made since both the individuals concerned were ineligible, on grounds of age, under the terms of the Ministerial and Other Pensions and Salaries Act 1991. A correction has since been given in a further Written Answer on 15 December, published in theOfficial Report of the House of Commons [col. 642].
