To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will make a statement about the prevalence of fraud in prescriptions issued free of charge.

Checks on eligibility for prescription charge exemption and charge remission under the national health service low income scheme indicate that the incidence of fraud is relatively low. The adequacy and operation of these checks are kept under review.
