HC Deb 25 January 1994 vol 236 cc223-4W
Mr. Austin-Walker

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is his estimate of the most recent residence-based unemployment rates for London by(a) borough and (b) constituency giving the figures overall and broken down for male and female; and what is the change in number of unemployed claimants in London by (i) borough and (ii) constituency for the same month in each of the last six years and the change since 1979.

Miss Widdecombe

At present, official unemployment rates are not available for areas smaller than the self-contained labour markets known as travel-to-work areas.

Unadjusted data on the numbers of unemployment claimants for each local authority district and parliamentary constituency are available on a monthly basis from June 1983 onwards. The data can be obtained from the NOMIS database in the Library.
