§ Mr. Nicholas WintertonTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on Her Majesty's Government's policy in relation to the Government of the Republic of Angola and to UNITA; and if he will indicate what specific support is being given by Her Majesty's Government to the Angolan peace process.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydOur policy in Angola is to support a negotiated settlement to the civil war. To this end we took an active part in drafting Security Council resolution 864, which imposed sanctions against UNITA. We fully support the United Nations brokered negotations taking place in Lusaka between the Government of Angola and UNITA. We have provided £10 million of humanitarian aid since June 1993, to all areas of Angola.
