To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what estimates he has made of the effects of motorway tolls/road pricing, on the economies of the English regions and Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Key

Motorway charging will provide another source of finance for expanding the inter-urban road network more quickly. This will prevent congestion that would otherwise occur and so benefit the economies of all parts of the United Kingdom.
