§ Mrs. EwingTo ask the President of the Board of Trade what is the current annual level of expenditure by his Department into investigation of potential renewable energy sources in(a) wind power, (b) off-shore wave power, (c) on-shore wave power and (d) solar power; and if he will list the current expenditure patterns by (i) EU countries and (ii) European Free Trade Area countries.
§ Mr. EggarThe annual level of research and development expenditure on these programmes over the previous three financial years—1990–91, 1991–92 and 1992–93—has averaged £6,630,000 for wind power, £189,000 for shoreline wave power, plus £206,000 for wave power more generally, including off-shore wave power, and £2,260,000 for solar power. My Department does not maintain records on the current expenditure patterns of either EU or EFTA countries.
