HC Deb 24 January 1994 vol 236 cc78-9W
22. Mr. Lidington

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the future of the crossrail project.

Mr. MacGregor

Having considered the report of the consultants appointed to review crossrail, the Government continue to support the project. It remains the Government's view that crossrail should be taken forward as a joint venture, with a substantial private sector financial contribution. Accordingly, the promoters will be seeking to progress the crossrail Bill when the Committee stage resumes on 25 January.

Ms Harman

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what conclusions he has drawn on the respective roles of public and private finance in crossrail following the report of the consultants commissioned by his Department to evaluate the project; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Norris>

[holding answer 21 January 1994]: It remains the intention of Ministers that crossrail should be taken forward as a joint venture with the private sector.
