HC Deb 20 January 1994 vol 235 cc768-9W
Mr. Donald Anderson

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many nurse regrading appeals remain to be settled; what proportion this constitutes of the appeals made since 1989; and what are the number and percentages for each health authority in Wales.

Mr. Gwilym Jones

Latest available information on the total numbers of clinical grading appeals still outstanding is as follows:

Health Authority At Employing Authority Level At Welsh Appeals Committee (Regional) Level At National Level (Negotiating Council)
Clwyd 16 42
East Dyfed 4 75 7
Gwent 4 222 57
Gwynedd 77 13
Mid Glamorgan 90 309 39
Pembrokeshire 50
Powys 55 62
South Glamorgan 206 25
West Glamorgan 72 14
Total 98 1,082 259

A significant number of appeals made since 1989 have been either withdrawn or not proceeded with and no reliable proportionate data are available.

I am optimistic that recent discussions between both sides of the Nursing and Midwifery Staff Negotiating Council will shortly result in new procedures for clearing all outstanding cases at the Welsh and national levels.
