HC Deb 20 January 1994 vol 235 c726W
Mr. Winnick

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what is his policy over a number of mobile classrooms being in permanent use due to acute lack of space in the main school buildings; and what financial assistance he intends to give to local authorities to overcome such difficulties by undertaking capital work at the schools involved.

Mr. Forth

The provision of school places, whether in permanent or temporary accommodation, is a matter for local education authorities and school governors. Capital spending levels and priorities as between projects and schools are also a local matter. My right hon. Friend gives high priority in the distribution of capital resources to funding new school places where demand is growing; and the level of funding is based on the new places being in permanent rather than temporary accommodation.
