HC Deb 20 January 1994 vol 235 c779W
13. Mr. Ainger

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many roads crossing the border with the Republic are closed; and if he will make a statement.

Sir John Wheeler

There are 291 border crossing points recognised by the British and Irish Governments, of which 103 are currently subject to closure order.

The Government remain committed to maintaining security and to curbing the ability of terrorists to exploit the border. The responsibility for any inconvenience resulting from the closure of roads rests squarely on the terrorists.
