To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department how many independent inspections of the magistrates courts system he estimates will be employed; and what is his estimate of their annual pay.

The magistrates courts service inspectorate employs the following inspectors:

Chief Inspector

4 Senior Inspectors

12 Inspectors

The inspectorate's annual salary budget in 1994–95 for these 17 individuals will be £867,492.
