HC Deb 18 January 1994 vol 235 c568W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what assessment he has made of the pollution effects of used condoms discarded into the sewage system.

Mr. Atkins

The discharge of used condoms and other sewage-related debris in effluent has unsightly effects. Most of this material is intercepted and dealt with effectively by the sewerage system. Improvements planned for outfalls and treatment works will further reduce this form of pollution.
