HL Deb 12 January 1994 vol 551 cc29-30WA
The Earl of Kimberley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they intend to introduce any form of control on the number and/or location of interceptory commercial salmon-netting stations around the Scottish coastline.

Lord Fraser of Carmyllie

My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Scotland has no plans to impose additional restrictions on coastal salmon netting around the Scottish coastline.

The Earl of Kimberley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Secretary of State for Scotland, in the exercise of his powers under Section 1(4) of the Crown Estate Act 1961, will direct the Crown Estate Commissioners to discontinue the leasing out of interceptory commercial salmon-netting stations around the Scottish coastline; and if not, why not.

Lord Fraser of Carmyllie

My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Scotland considers that the management of the Crown Estate salmon fishings is best left to the Crown Estate Commissioners. Therefore he has no plans to issue a direction under the terms of the Crown Estate Act 1961.
